When it’s time to say goodbye to an old and faithful friend
When she’s gone as far as she can go, and this is the end
We’ll think about the good times, and the places that we’ve seen
As they haul her off to meet her end, now called recycling

Her once fine threads are frayed and wearing thin
And Her sure footing, well it’s dancing ‘round again
Incontinence leaving puddles behind her on the floor
Lost her wipers, hubcaps and fuel filler door

We get attached to our cars
They say a lot about who we are
But when it’s time to say goodbye
We leave them with the used car guy
Or send them to the crusher by and by

I miss my old VW bug
All those vacuum lines, and spark plugs
Heater boxes, carburetor
Fix it yourself and you’ll get there, well, later

Each new car we get, has new gadgets to try
That much more to distract us when our task should be to drive
They have a mind of their own, computers, some use the phone
And a voice in the dashboard, tells you how to get back home

We get attached to our cars
