New Vision 03:01
New Vision Daniel Senie © 2016 Cast aside your deepest fears The worries of your mind The universe will reveal A path for you to find As we try to organize The burdens of our lives Set aside the time to seek The wisdom of the light So laugh together every day Though there may be sorrow Only love will show the way To a bright tomorrow Let go your cares and listen To the voices of the trees Lift your arms like branches Reaching for a gentle breeze When we build walls 'round ourselves Let them not become a prison Open doors and windows wide Peace and joy your new vision So laugh together every day Though there may be sorrow Only love will show the way To a bright tomorrow

Old Cabin 03:30
I’ll visit old dreams again Of imagined places seen before Take a walk there with new friends And visit those who have gone before I walk along a narrow, muddy track Grass grows up the middle, not used any more This old cabin’s owner’s not coming back Through the mist of time I find its door This old cabin yearns for company For the feel of little feet upon its floors In the cold winter without its family Waiting for a friendly knock upon the door The cabin watches over the trees Guards the unkept yard and rocky soil Listens to the sounds upon the breeze And dreams of when its builder once did toil In the back yard is a rock with piled stones Marks the place where ashes were laid to rest Now its master has left it all alone The cabin guides him on his spirit quest The children have all moved away They come to visit when they get the chance The old cabin wishes they would stay Wishes to feel little feet dance Will there even be another generation? Will new children come and run and play? The old cabin doesn’t want to be forgotten Will someone come and stay another day?

Sixty-Eight 03:21
Small town life, Berkshire hills World outside my windowsill A quiet life, young and carefree Just school and books, afternoon TV All that changed in sixty eight World got smaller, filled with hate Shots rang out in Memphis town Martin Luther King, dead on the ground Heard my mother moan, my daddy weep Me, I cried myself to sleep Could there ever be peace again? The world outside came crashing in Big signs on each front lawn Battle lines were clearly drawn Shots rang out, west coast hotel Bobby Kennedy was dead as well The TV, it was black and white Watched it from afternoon ’til night Saturdays we’d watch cartoons But there were body counts on the evening news It was long ago, but like yesterday Innocence was swept away The images seared in my brain A world of fear and pain December nineteen sixty eight Apollo Eight blasted into space George Low sent them 'round the moon Earth-rise image, filled the room My parents cried, I did too Finally some happy news A year of pain, a year of hate Apollo Eight saved sixty eight It was Christmas day. A telegram from a stranger read: Apollo Eight saved sixty eight

Grateful 03:06
I’m grateful for my fingers that shape the notes and chords Grateful for the melodies that are their own reward I’m grateful for my partner, making music as we do And grateful for the chance to sing and play for you It all started with a dream, a vision in the night Came to me as my father’s spirit took to flight Flowing words like waterfalls tumbled through my pen When I thought it was done that river flowed again The to need sing was strong, to share and to heal And so I set off to learn, set fingers to the steel Bought my first guitar, learned to make it ring Hours disappeared as my heart began to sing I’m grateful for my fingers that shape the notes and chords Grateful for the melodies that are their own reward I’m grateful for my partner, making music as we do And grateful for the chance to sing and play for you And now ten years have passed, fingers dancing still From my dreams the melodies flow forth when they will What started in sadness, a dream and then a song Revealed to me a calling to share my whole life long A heavy cost paid in tears, no remorse and no regret Still I hear your voice, know I’m not done yet Grateful for my fingers that shape the notes and chords Grateful for the melodies that are their own reward I’m grateful for my partner, making music as we do And grateful for the chance to sing and play for you Yes, I’m grateful for the chance to sing and play for you

Hello, Melissa! Kind of you to come today Delighted to see my granddaughter, I know you can’t stay I remember when you were born, your mother’s exhausted pride Now I hear that soon you will be a blushing bride Enjoy your wedding day, songs you sing and games you play Stories you can tell to your own grandkids someday You are so dear to me! Can I pour you a cup of tea? Come again another day Hello, young lady! Kind of you to come today You look so much like my daughter, could I convince you to stay? I remember my daughter’s birth; she was such a vivacious girl Do you know where she is living now? My mind is such a whirl I remember her fifth birthday, songs she sang and games she played I hope she’ll have kids of her very own someday She is so dear to me! Can I pour you a cup of tea? Come again another day Hello, young lady! Kind of you to come today Have we met before? I feel I should ask you to stay I really can’t remember much; you have such a friendly face Could I ask a simple question? Do you live in this place? I remember my fourth birthday, songs I sang and games I played I’m afraid that’s all I can remember today You are so good to me! Can I pour you a cup of tea? Come again another day Hello, young lady! Kind of you to come today

Harvest Time 03:20
Harvest Time Daniel Senie © October 2014 Crisp new England air on an autumn morning Songbirds at the feeder greet sunrise as they sing Leaves begin to fade in colors bright and bold Whispers on the wind, another year grows old The passing of the seasons, summer into fall Soon enough winter winds will sound their siren call The years pass too quickly, and yet we can't complain Come next year, we’ll be right here, rejoicing again So set the table, light the candles, it's harvest time once more Sunny days, chilly nights, wind knocks at the door Apple pie from the oven, sure to delight Celebrate this bounty in autumn's fading light Clouds soar overhead through gently swaying trees In this time of dreams and joyful memories The firewood is stacked, and the peaches have been canned Working hand in hand, in concert with the land So set the table, light the candles, it's harvest time once more Sunny days, chilly nights, wind knocks at the door Apple pie from the oven, sure to delight Celebrate this bounty in autumn’s fading light Harvest time is bittersweet; we cannot help but sigh Another trip around the sun, days are passing by As we settle into winter and cold winds start to blow We’ll think about next season and the crops that we will grow There's taters in the cellar and wheat to see us through The kale will winter over, 'til springtime skies turn blue So set the table, light the candles, it's harvest time once more Sunny days, chilly nights, wind knocks at the door Apple pie from the oven, sure to delight Celebrate this bounty in autumn’s fading light Celebrate together on this joyful night

Footsteps 03:32
Fifty years ago there were marchers in the streets On that Memphis night a journey incomplete Left behind a legacy, stand up for what’s right Challenged us to carry on, marching to the light They tried to kill the dream, dreams live forever Reborn into children with nothing left to fear Passed on as spirit that can never die History chooses you. This is your time In the footsteps of Ghandi and Martin Luther King, In the darkest hours the chimes of freedom ring Speaking truth to power, showing us the way We look to you to lead to a bright new day Lean on one another when your strength wears thin It's not a fight you asked for, it's one we must win It falls on you speak for your absent friends Long past time we declared, "never again" In the footsteps of Ghandi and Martin Luther King, In the darkest hours the chimes of freedom ring Speaking truth to power, showing us the way We look to you to lead to a bright new day Nothing in your life will ever ease the pain Turn sadness into strength and rise again Reach out with hope to any who will hear Love is the power that will conquer fear In the footsteps of Ghandi and Martin Luther King, In the darkest hours the chimes of freedom ring Speaking truth to power, showing us the way We look to you to lead to a bright new day Speaking truth to power, never turning away We look to you to lead to bright new day Speaking truth to power, never turning away This is the start of a bright new day

Her name was Melody; that’s all they told to me When I first asked about her picture The story of her end was a lot to comprehend This mystery girl who would have been my sister So many others loved her; she’s a stranger to me Though I witness their pain, to me she’ll always be Just a picture on the wall And then there’s Rachael – she’s my mom She was practical, and calm And healthy as a horse, until the end It broke my heart the day I was told she passed away A world without her I could not comprehend Her death rocked my foundation, shook me to the core Though I no longer have her with me, To me she’s so much more Than just a picture on a wall Why do we keep pictures after someone’s gone? Why do we need to connect when they depart? I find myself looking at each portrait, eye to eye It helps me keep them in my heart Their names are Richard, Jake, and Jerry, Terence, Bill, and Terry I watched their online postings go by When they passed beyond this plane the Facebook friendships remained I cannot bring myself to break this tie It’s so hard to believe that each of them is gone But when they show up on my screen the memories carry on Through their pictures on my wall I love these pictures on my wall

We used to talk by telephone every couple days A quick hello to tell me about places on the way But that was then, this is now, don’t know where you are And the telephone doesn’t reach that far We used to go for walks along the old dirt road Autumn leaves changing from green to red and gold But that was then, this is now, I’m driving your old car And I don’t think the roads go that far I miss your voice, miss your touch, miss the smiles that we shared I miss the way you listened, always seemed to care Through the years I’ve realized those quiet times alone That’s what it meant to come back home We used to chat by email in your later days You’d tell me about treatments and the price you had to pay But that was then, this is now, you’re just a distant star And the Internet doesn’t reach that far Precious times remembered, quiet moments shared Life is a journey but it isn’t always fair Everywhere I ramble, every song I sing Reminds me of those days and simple things I miss your voice, miss your touch, miss the smiles that we shared I miss the way you listened, always seemed to care Through the years I’ve realized those quiet times alone That’s what it meant to come back home We used to talk by telephone, every couple days

When the road trips you, brings you down Turns your smile into a frown Call me up, I’ll come around I’ll be there for you When daylight fades into the night When the shadows cause you fright I’ll be there to hold you tight I’ll be there for you When you need me I’ll be there I’m the one who’ll always care No need to cry or fear I’ll be there for you When winter skies turn dark and grey When the blues won't go away you can call me any day I’ll be there for you When you need me I’ll be there I’m the one who’ll always care No need to cry or fear I’ll be there for you When we’re old and moving slow There is something you will know There will always be that glow I’ll be there for you When you need me I’ll be there I’m the one who’ll always care No need to cry or fear I’ll be there for you

When it’s time to say goodbye to an old and faithful friend When she’s gone as far as she can go, and this is the end We’ll think about the good times, and the places that we’ve seen As they haul her off to meet her end, now called recycling Her once fine threads are frayed and wearing thin And Her sure footing, well it’s dancing ‘round again Incontinence leaving puddles behind her on the floor Lost her wipers, hubcaps and fuel filler door We get attached to our cars They say a lot about who we are But when it’s time to say goodbye We leave them with the used car guy Or send them to the crusher by and by I miss my old VW bug All those vacuum lines, and spark plugs Heater boxes, carburetor Fix it yourself and you’ll get there, well, later Each new car we get, has new gadgets to try That much more to distract us when our task should be to drive They have a mind of their own, computers, some use the phone And a voice in the dashboard, tells you how to get back home We get attached to our cars They say a lot about who we are But when it’s time to say goodbye We leave them with the used car guy Or send them to the crusher by and by Send their souls to that scrap yard in the sky
